On February 20, the T5 Terminal at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport officially commenced operations. By the end of 2024, the airport will be revamped and accelerated. As the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, Xi'an is fully expediting the construction of an international aviation hub, giving wings to its "air route."
The Phase III expansion project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is a key construction project under the national "14th Five-Year Plan," a benchmark demonstration project for civil aviation nationwide, and a major project for Shaanxi Province to build an inland highland for reform and opening up while driving high-quality development. ERA maintains strict control by employing exquisite quality and rigorous service procedures to construct a solid safeguard for the safe and efficient operation of the airport expansion. Focusing on Chinese-style modern urban development and rooted in the construction and maintenance of municipal pipelines, ERA continuously forges the lifeblood of the city with exceptional technological craftsmanship.
As the largest infrastructure construction project in the history of Northwest civil aviation development, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is designed to support an annual passenger throughput of 83 million and a cargo and mail throughput of 1 million tons. It serves as an integrated transportation hub combining air, rail, and road transport. Upon completion of the Phase III expansion project, the airport will feature 4 runways and 4 terminals, forming a dual-driven development model with both eastern and western terminal areas. This upgrade will comprehensively enhance its infrastructure support capacity and operational efficiency, while deeply integrating into the "Belt and Road" development framework.
In this expansion project, ERA’s steel-wire reinforced PE composite pipes, HDPE hollow-wall spiral pipes, PPR water supply pipes, and PVC-U drainage series products are employed in the water supply and drainage systems. They interconnect the water flow network across the airport's key structures, ensuring that water flows seamlessly.
The project is situated in a collapsible loess region with complex geological conditions, posing severe challenges for the pipeline system's seismic resistance and settlement resistance. ERA’s steel-wire reinforced PE composite pipes combine the rigid strength of steel pipes with the flexibility and lightness of plastic pipes, achieving a balance between rigidity and flexibility. With the support of the steel wire mesh, they easily adapt to complex terrain and underground temperature variations.
Airport runways continuously endure aircraft takeoffs and landings year-round, placing high demands on the rigidity of the pipeline system. ERA’s steel-wire reinforced PE composite pipes combine the rigid strength of steel pipes with the flexibility and lightness of plastic pipes, easily adapting to complex terrain and providing long-lasting, reliable support for the airport runway firefighting water supply system.
Inside the terminal, where passenger traffic is dense, an efficient and reliable water supply and drainage system is essential to the flying experience. ERA’s HDPE hollow-wall spiral pipes, ERA PPR water supply pipes, and ERA PVC-U drainage series feature smooth inner walls and eco-friendly materials, effectively resisting external impacts and ground settlement, thereby providing hidden strength for the stable operation of Xi'an Airport’s water supply and drainage system.
These deeply buried network projects not only ensure the smooth operation of the city, but also serve as a microcosm of China's infrastructure strength.
In 2025, China will implement proactive fiscal policies and loose monetary policies, especially by ramping up infrastructure investment. It is anticipated that China will experience a boom in infrastructure construction, with the scale of investment expected to reach tens of trillions
As a leading enterprise in the piping industry, the Phase III Expansion Project of Xi'an Xianyang International Airport stands as another milestone in ERA's contributions to national infrastructure development, showcasing its robust achievements in intelligent manufacturing. From Beijing Daxing International Airport and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, ERA has strategically extended its expertise across major transportation hubs. By executing municipal projects with precision and infusing its technological prowess into national infrastructure, ERA empowers more mega-projects to take flight, solidifying its role in shaping China's modern engineering landscape.
